Top 5 Reasons to Visit The Boneyard in Disney’s Animal Kingdom

My son loves visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World and The Boneyard is one of his favorite attractions. I happily take him on each visit and here’s why:

5. It’s an entertaining place to go when a kid isn’t tall enough (or brave enough) to ride big rides.

My husband and I LOVE Expedition Everest-Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, DINOSAUR, and Avatar Flight of Passage but our son won’t be tall enough to go on these rides for a few more years. The Boneyard allows one of us to play with our son and keep him entertained while the other rides. Then we switch places and our son is perfectly happy playing and running around. He doesn’t even realize that he is missing anything.

4. It’s gated.

Other parks have similar play areas like The Laughin’ Place near Splash Mountain in Magic Kingdom Park but they are not fenced in like The Boneyard. My son runs and plays to his heart’s content.  The gate around The Boneyard gives me added peace of mind while he plays.

3. It’s shaded.

Y’all, Animal Kingdom (and Florida in general) gets HOT! When I sit down to rest for a minute during a long day in the park, I always look for an area that is shaded. Give me some popcorn, a Diet Coke, and my kid happily playing while I rest in the shade and I am one happy lady!

2. The sand isn’t really sand.

We all know the imagineers at Disney think of EVERYTHING. The dig site of The Boneyard is filled with what looks like sand – but it’s not! It’s really really tiny rocks. Why is this important? Because sand sticks to sweaty bodies and gets gross. The really tiny rocks don’t! You can brush your kid off so easily which makes clean up a breeze!

1. It’s a lot of fun!

Kids (and kids at heart) can have so much fun at The Boneyard. Slides, musical bones to play on, areas to climb on and run around, and the dig site can keep your kid entertained for a long time. My son usually doesn’t want to leave (unless we are going on Kilimanjaro Safaris to see the “aminals”). Make sure you check it out next time you are at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
